VMWARE Player Installation & Linux installation on WINDOWS on LVM partition – Part 1

hey guys in this video we’re gonna see like how exactly to install an operating system on your windows now as you can see that I’m on my Windows 8 operating system actually it’s Windows 8.1 now what I’m planning to do is like I’m trying to install this is that I’ll Enterprise Linux 64-bit or i386 build so 36 32 or 64 build whatever I need for the installation now I have both the software is downloaded and you can see that I have different software as well so the first thing you want to do is like download the operating system put it on a drive so I put it I just to put it here in this particular folder now I’m gonna install this particular version which have downloaded the first thing you want to do is like you can go for an Oracle Virtual Machine or VirtualBox or you can go for bmareschal mission now I would recommend you to go for VMware virtual machine now you have no idea how to do that so just go to google and type VMware there you don’t need anything else you just need a VMware Player which is free to download so as you can see over here selecting the product so you just come down come down and you will have player here on the bottom so you see this VMware Player now download product is right there just show you that so here you go here you have being download product opposite the right opposite to the VMware Player so click on this download product and you can see that the product you can download it for a 32-bit windows or a 64-bit windows oh I’m sorry it’s for Linux are you good Linux 64-bit and only one for the windows so you just click on download and it will ask you to register or probably just download started so it’s 93 LV so the version which I am installing a 6.0.1 so it really doesn’t matter what version you are installing but then you need this particular product I’m not downloading this because because I’m not using I’m gonna use it basically so that’s that’s about it and now what I do is like open the virtual vmf player here so once you have installed it you will find it like this so we will find out mercial mission player like this we have a special mission so we what about you will get a similar mission okay it’s 6.0 to zero but what we saw there was six foot 0.1 sorry so again perfectly see something like this very simple in infrastructure or interface so basically go to players help about virtual mission so you can see the version wait here and that’s it so click on create a new version mission now don’t give anything over here just click on I will install the operating system later but create a blank virtual machine Patrick so that’s what we want right now so don’t click on anything else just follow my instructions click Next now which operating system you want to install it really doesn’t matter which operating system you wanna install only that you need to select either it’s a 64-bit operating system or 32-bit operating system even I again I’m telling you it doesn’t matter what kind of operating system you’re choosing now I’m going to install Red Hat Enterprise Land X but I’m going to take coupon to now I will be installing 64-bit so I’m taking uber to 64 here so even though I will be installed at Enterprise Linux so basically why we select these many operating systems because there is a boot drive now what happens is like ok fine let’s go back let’s install the operating system so the first term itself we are installing the grounding system right so I will tell you the disadvantage when you do this so go to this I am selecting the 64-bit operating system click Next now what happens is like the operating system will be installed with easy install so which means like once you you know finish the setup now automatically the the system when you stand up it will already get installed so that’s something we don’t want it to happen because you want to customize everything right

so now if you see that now in normal VMs setup you won’t be asked for it and enterprise new missions password but it will ask it over here itself now if I go proceed here now you can see that so the personalization is nothing but now your operating system is going to install automatically without your presence or your customization so if you if you are new to Linux or something like that you can choose this method of installing the system automatically without your convenience so what happens is like when you give linka linka travel so basically have to give it so I’m giving password has ran out so now what happens is like your drivers gonna get created in this directory don’t put it on sequel and it’s always recommended to put it on the colon or wherever that they’ll drive which has more space because now when you give next you want to select the size of your virtual machine in this space so normally all the desktop users will configure sequel to this minimum so no try to put it on the quarrel or any other problem which is like more than 50 60 GB of space now there are two options over here this is split the virtual disk into multiple files which is nothing but every 2gb of a file every every virtual machine if it becomes 2gb it will split into a different file so you can find a lot of files which is not more than 2 GB now why do we do this is basically because when you are using the fat file system for copy abundance so basically like you want to transfer this particular content in your beef fat file system or a older file system which is not NTFS so what is the problem was like the fat doesn’t support files a single file which is larger than 2 GB so this becomes a problem for you to copy the file like if you if you say store the virtual disk as a single file so one file will be created and file size would be 20 GB or whatever GB are saying over here so it’s not recommended to put it on the top you have to split the files every 2 GB so this is like for that kind of heard of copy-paste our performance and all those things but again splitting this this make is a easy easier to move the virtual machine to another machine but reduces the performance with a very large disk so you have to understand that you have to compromise the performance here because you are splitting into different files so even if you tell it one file then dial virtual machine is useless so that thing you have to understand while you do before this so when you power on the Virtual Machine so what is going to do is like it’s going to start installation right away so it’s not going to wait for you because you are given the username and password and it’s going to install it right away so that’s the recommended settings but that’s not really something you really want to do because as as you want to learn something about Linux the first thing you wanna learn is how to install the operating system that’s the first thing I want you to learn so basically that that has been done automatically here and you can see that you will be prompted anything at all here it will just directly go to the installation which is I really don’t recommend that kind of thing so I can find it out here it’s formatting the devices whichever it finds out so other format is done its retrieving the installation packages and it’s checking for the dependencies it’s not asking you what kind of a packages you want no questions asked here it’s just done you have to get this thing done immediately so basically you can find that here so this is something I really don’t want you to do so why what you do over here is like now basically when you are stuck inside the virtual machine you cannot come outside so you can see that it’s very hard for you to come outside so give ctrl + Alt just give ctrl + Alt you can come out immediately so if you wanna come out right now just ctrl + hard now as you can see the installation has already been started but we have not configured anything at all over here so just do one thing shut out the version mission of you wanna install your land X by yourself and customize the packages whichever you want the most so you wanna tell it from this now this option you

have to be very careful when you’re doing this because when you click on this option everything anything is you have created for this resolution will be gone permanently there is no way of turning back or you know getting things back so it’s kind of an irreversible process so be very careful when you make this changes now click on a virtual machine again and click on I will install the operating system later till next select the operating system which ever you want again I’m saying it’s nothing about the ocean you gonna select here it’s all you are version even I can put it on others and I can install it so I can do FreeBSD 64 version I can still do that so I have about I really don’t think I need 40 GB of space so I have 40 GB of space left in my disk so I’m going to put it like 10 GB over here and well split it into a multiple price for easier moving and copying of virtual mission so click on next and finish that’s it no other questions asked no other things you need to do that’s it so now the first thing after creating this empty version mission you gotta do is you gotta modify the brand because I want the RAM to be huge my system has 8 GB of RAM so I didn’t let it dedicate about 3.8 GB of RAM to this virtual machine because I want this version permission to boot up really fast now if you’re unsure about how and what level of grab you have to set go to the task manager which you can right click on your task bar and hold on to for it to come Windows 8 task manager will be little different from the other task managers out there so you can click on the memory usage so we can find out the total number available in this particular CPU is a GB ddr3 RAM and 7.9 su is usable why 7.9 is usable is because basically the point one person did will be going for the operating system and you cannot utilize that particular point one but yes seven point nine you can completely utilize for the operating system and this is one Lee because you are using a 64-bit operating system now I’m using a 64-bit operating system that’s why some point line if I am using a 32-bit operating system now I’m not gonna get this seven point nine but rather I’ll be getting out some point three or some point for which I am actually used because the 64-bit sorry the 32-bit is the whole technology which doesn’t use the RAM appropriately but 64-bit is a really really good architecture which makes use of the most of the RAM to the users but then it’s using itself so basically what you can find out here is so three point is III wear a GB of RAM is consumed out of 7.9 GB which gives me again somewhere like 3gb of ram to be left alone so I can see like the half of them is like 4.1 is available over here so I can use up to 4 GB of RAM and again understand is that when you are side this version mission 4gb of RAM it’s not going to use the 4 gig of ram right away ok so whenever the maximum conception it’s gonna happen that’s when it’s gonna use the complete Ram of 4 gigs so until unless the maximum is consumed I don’t think you have to be worried about anything at all so that’s for you understanding again you can choose the process of over here now I have a cold I’m sorry I have 16 cores of processor over here where I can select how many hoes I’m going to dedicate for this particular virtual mission so I’m selecting like two cause of processor is going to be assigned to this virtual machine and then I cannot increase my hard disk space that you have to understand for sure I cannot choose again the multiple or single files that so one time option you have to choose it at the stack so you can find it out the capacity of this particular harddrive which I’m dedicated for this virtual machine is 10 GB and whatever is free is like in the system is 25 gb is currently feel free in my operating system that’s what it says here so if I go to this computer fine like 25 point 5 GB as free memory which is what it said in this virtual machine over here 35.6 we just like a predictive

zone gates it’s been calculated I’m sorry I’m shifting my stuff now you can also find the CD drive which is order director you can disconnect it and the network which you have four options of sorry five options basically so we normally use host totally or not based I P address and we will be explaining you about this a little later and then the USB connections and all those display adapters and blah blah blah now if you are in a need of adding another hard drive over here but understand that you can click on this ad and you can add it now what happens here is basically you can add an additional hard drive this means the partitioning of the high drive the mounting of the high right everything has to be done from the Linux point of view um for your understanding now we have not created any operating system so what I’m going to do is like I basically and hard drive here you can add a SATA AC or an IE old hard drive now skocy is something which is recommended by the vmware people so just go with this and now what you want to do you want to create a new virtual hard drive is there any existing version hard drives you wanna migrate it to this or you have a physical hard drive which is dedicated for this like this so basically this is a new version hard drive from the single system so it’s not dedicated as well so now what I’m gonna do is like I’m gonna go put like 2 GB of space assign it to this and uh Pig this means I look at all the space now means now what happens basically is like now think like this so we are first given 10 GB of 10 GB of space for my operating system now not the 10 GB is going to be assigned to my operating system bribe my operating system after installation the total size of your operating system would be around vo 3gb that’s the maximum your operating system can take and once this installation is done the virtual machine complete virtual machine folder is going to be about the size of the same size of your operating system now if you give this option over here now an empty space will not be there so what happens is like a 2gb of file will be right away created which means like that will be nothing practically inside that but still you will have the space inside already to that version mission so that’s the difference between this and that if it is disabled it the actual space will grow based on the you can say like if you are using like 400 GB extra so 4 GB plus the operating system which is like 3 GB so 4 plus 3 is what the actual consumption of your operating system of your virtual machine folder so this is called growing up so if you add 3 more GB then again three more GB goes up but once the whole operating system whatever dedicated harddrive is gonna get filled up you are not being able to add or modify anything right there so that’s the actual limit so you can put it like this and say finish so basically you have two hard drives one serum now basically what I’m gonna do is not ever power on this virtual machine I know that I have not selected the ISO image let’s see what happens that’s what I want to see just click on the Play version mission right now see what actually goes on here it’s another operating system here it couldn’t find any of the operating system installed or rather we couldn’t find any CD to be bootable so the next thing it’s trying over here is basically trying to boot from the network that’s what every operating system every mission every physical mission would do so everybody can do is like in player around here just restart the system over here so just go here and plus f2 okay it’s a bit tricky actually yeah so you have the BIOS from recorded as BIOS form because it’s a basic input/output system so this is where we configure everything so you can find it out that you have so many things detected over here I can see a cd-rom which is detected and as well as like there is nothing as a primary slave or master hour as well as a secondary cell let’s go for the advanced here and let’s go for the security boot okay now how this boot is gonna happen so basically you can see over here is the first

bootable devices your removable devices your floppy disk the other one is the hard drive the second one the third one will be the cd-rom drive and the fourth one would be your network boot drive so basically what you can find out here is like the sequence of your operating system would boot from what had been assigned here now if you can push things up and down blah blah blah so but right wrap right now there is no content on your virtual mission so it’s practically useless so what we can do is like I’m gonna exit this without saving or without saying it really doesn’t matter and then I’m gonna do a power off over here a shutdown so once the shahram is complete now directly from the virtual machine or edit the version vision settings over here you can see it right now yeah so click on the edit the virtual machine setting over here and go to the cd-rom so the cd-rom is how you know boot RIR so finally as given browse here and click on this location and paste the location it should copy or if you have not copied it so this is where you have downloaded operating system right so copy this particular folder and put it right over here so that’s it just in just over all right so to put it over here and say end up that’s it serve and I put it over here you have to put it over here so it will be in some other folder for example it’s in D : so you just gonna paste it over here and say enter and then you’re gonna get that file over here double click that now you have loaded the is oil Bezos here and then okay and you can see that there is no practical changes over here but when you play the motion machine you can find the actual difference so first the boot of a removable drive and then we a hard drive will be detected and then your cd-rom now in the cd-rom it found out that there is some kind of an arm a boot element is present and the boot element is nothing but it would have this new file called in it Rd image and the kernel image so basically it will find both those both of those files and then it says like ok fine I have something over here where I can boot and now you would just build it up fine so now the second thing that next thing we’re gonna do is bigger install an operating system moves here now in this particular welcome screen we can find install and update an existing system install system with a basic video driver rescue installed the system boot from your local drive or memory test so these options is available you can do right now so first thing we’re gonna do is like we are going to install red-eyed and rice version Linux 6.0 so click on the first option or second option it doesn’t matter what option area clicking but Bri are going to install it we add the GUI mode so it’s going to use the basic video driver only so let’s see how we have to proceed with the installation so this if this is the first time it’s probably a little hard for you so just practice this again you can also delete it and you know do it again so this is like you can do a testing of your installation media which is like this was introduced in Berlin and press so you read at Linux version 8 I think I’m not pretty sure about it but what actually we do at that point of time is like we will have three or four discs and what do we do is like we put the disk inside for before installation we gotta check on these discs whether this discs are working fine because what happens is like if the second installation second CD is getting installed and then last for the third CD and then when you put on third CD the CD might be scratched or cracked a bill where the whole installation will fail just because the third CD was not able to get things done so what we do is like first thing we run all the media tests first it will check with all the CDs which Chava is involved in the installation is working perfect and then we proceed with the installation so that’s why we have the screen over here so we would skip this because this is an ISO file so we don’t deal with CDs anymore do we I don’t think so right all right so this is the installation of FreeBSD 64-bit oh I’m sorry it’s the red and Priceline like 6.0 so you can see I hope you can

daylight savings and all those things so basically you have to check this for if you’re if you’re a country which believes in daylight savings so root password will be read at for me read at for me so I recommend you to keep the root password until you are understanding say that’s we could use anywhere so now it’s where you can come to configuration so you can leave it to the Linux system to design on your partition so replace the existing Linux system existing running system which means like it will remove everything everything in your harddrive and to create Linux or entered partitions that’s sir or you can create a custom layout so you have different options for you it’s like you remove all use all space which means like it will utilize all the space available to for your installation of a Linux replace only the existing Linux system so only the only the Linux partition will really replace like ext2 ext3 and all those things but if you if it finds any and the partitions are not like such as to be fat or fact that you do on NTFS it will ignore those partitions shrink current system means it will say the free space and it will shrink all those free space and that free space the default layout will be created and use the free space means whatever the partitions was not created or whatever this free space of spending so that there will be and the last option which we will be doing right now is the create a custom layout where we customize our current system through whatever be be might need of so click on that and click Next and you can find out that there are two partitions out here which is like SDA and SDP now don’t wonder how come two partitions came in – because we just added one more 2gb of a hard drive right so basically the 2 GB of hard drive over here on 10 G of a hard drive over here so SDA and is DV that’s how the partition we named us because it’s a SATA or a scuzzy hard drive so I see our drive will be named as SDA and ie will be named sh t R so that’s how if you have any idea about Linux you might have known about it now know what I’m going to do is like I’m gonna create I’m not going to create it simply now for the people who was using this first and you can go for the default layout out here so you can click on the replace existing or use all the space and you can go for the installation you can skip this step but if you are if you are installing this for the second time or third time and you wanna know more about plating partitions you can go for this step now what I’m going to do is like I’m gonna do a simple thing over here I’m gonna merge both the partitions here now we can see that it’s two different hard drive now what I’m gonna do is like I’m gonna merge these two different hard drive into one different hard drive virtually that’s where the logical volume oh I forgot okay it’s it’s where the lbm comes in logical volume manager so that’s where it comes in and that’s what we’re gonna do it so click on create so what do you wanna do first of all you can create a raid partition write partitions are used for there are different levels of three so they ambu basically rains actual neighbors redundant array of independent disks which means each disk will be different will not be dependent on Dada but I’ve been one this fails another one will be there to save that disk so that’s where the right concept is coming into and we’re not going to deal about this vague concept right right now in this chapter we’re gonna discuss only about the logical volume manager which is right here now standard partition is where like it’s where the general partition which is created for general use now what you want to create before you create a lil VMs basically you have to create one standard partition and you have to keep it away from the lvl now which partition would that be now think about this when you are operating system is booting there is one partition which has only the boot related files now if that partition is named as slash boot partition now boot partition is something which we cannot make it virtual so that’s something which has to be a standard partition that you can understand when we talk about logical volume manager now create a standard partition over here click on create and which partition you gonna create slash boot now select the mount point select the mount point where this particular hard drive is going to be or partition is going to be used and what kind of a partition is going to be it’s going to be an X 2 2 X 64 you can put the other partition but again there will be some problems later so we will go with the

Linux default partitions of there which is ext4 then now which allowable drive should be dedicated for this partition now I would go for SDA why because it has like 10 GB of space so I would recommend 10 GB of space over 2 GB of free space so basically I’m I will go for the SDA and how much should be the minimum size for a boot partition but according to the Lex it’s 200 but according to me it’s hundred so more than 100 100 is small enough for the boot partition so I keep it as a primary partition because that’s the first partition I want the BIOS to detect when my operating system starts so that there won’t be any confusion between no sore the next missus is installed but I’m not gonna install Windows or Linux in the system because I’m already on Windows and over that Windows I am installing a virtual machine and in that virtual machine I am installing a Linux operating system and that’s how it’s going to work so click on OK here now you can see the first boot partition is right here right now so you can see that one percentage of this total hearts by total size of the hard drive is dedicated for the boot partition now our first work is done now click on the create and go for the LVM physical volume now click on create again and now choose all the hard drive all the space available say like fill it to the maximum available space and say ok constrain for the single drive through this select the tylenol size ok so first let’s put this SDA into the logical volume so it’s created now so we will create it separate separate and then as a group we will add it together so put it the second one as well so create a logical physical volume no put this second one allow allowable maximum allowable size and create two volumes so now you can see that the two volumes has been created over here and then click on create and say LVM volume group now we’re gonna create a volume group over here now what are you gonna do is like volume group is nothing but we’re gonna add this to 10 and 2 together so that we get how much yes correct at 12 GB of a space for this post 1 volume group and you can decide on this extent according to the way you wanted it so you can put it like 8 MB so that would be appropriate now after you create this volume group now you’re gonna add partitions to it so first partition I’m gonna add is like I like installing a lot of software Zoro PD so I will put the opt as Drive which I give a dedicated 5,000 5,000 will be enough yeah 5,000 which is like almost 5 GB of space to the OPD tag bits I install most software’s on and then add another partition over here and put it for slash and put it as a maximum size I really don’t want to define size here so put it doesn’t maximum size and click OK now again it’s it’s up to you how much sighs you’re dedicating for your hard drive so it’s completely yours your choice so I’m not restraining you to 10 GB you can go to 40 GB 80 you’ll be how much our size you want you can go ahead and do it it’s according to your physical hard drive so you have a 1 TB 1 terabyte of hard drive go for 50 GB or 500 GB if you want it doesn’t matter so you wanna do this way so you guys have the slash mountain on the volume group and opt mounted on the wall in room now what partition I forgot which I am I really forgot to mention was the partition of spam now swap can be accommodated here now one of the Romans do is like I’m gonna put 6800 over here and the rest of the partition I’m gonna created as now swap is something which you cannot select from here one point you have to select from the filesystem okay click on the slash space and the rest of the 370 thank you it to this map and I really don’t believe on this map concept because most of the times that I was map course map is like Idol and I feel like half of your RAM to be dedicated for space more than enough snow not right now for this example I’ve given 376 so you have to actually give 2 times of your RAM but I recommend half of the RAM is more than enough but according to the Linux and up for according to any operating system a virtual memory should be double the time of your RAM so if you want for a safer Society of configuring it on the server or any other things you can give double the time to save space you can give only half of that when you are using on your local desktop or laptop according to my
