nerve-wracking the day of you know I was talking the ground while they’re back and forth and he was accorded we go where do we go from here but it all worked out and Christopher had the time of his life and that’s what it’s all about these families and these kids who are sick go through so much and if we can take a day or a week out of their life or they don’t have to worry about anything but being a family that’s what our goal is right and that’s why you hold events like spooktacular this is an event you’re putting together and it’s going to be a lot of fun it’s happening this weekend so talk a little bit about this event and what people will expect from it um the spooktacular benefit will be held at the elks on this saturday from 832 1130 my father Joel a jack will be providing entertainment there’s a cash bar it is all ages as long as the younger folks stay in the area where the music will be playing there’s cash prize for best costume there will also be a 50-50 drawing and I have a basket of cheer raffle going off with 15 to 20 different wines and sprees alright so this is going along with the Halloween theme right now or in the month of October so it’s going to be a lot of fun for people of all ages and kids and it helps raise money for make-a-wish Foundation Nick tell me a little bit about your involvement with me go ash why you got involved and why people should come out to this event to help raise money I got involved them two reasons um one I had a little boy on a baseball team last year who passed away Brandon g-love Goreski and I was looking somehow to pay tribute to him and I thought you know helping out with the make-a-wish foundation I thought it was gonna be a one-time deal make a donation and and walk away from it but then I started getting a little more involved and I satin unfortunately Tim Martin mass at his funeral and you guys talked about the legacy he was leaving behind and I thought to myself I need to leave some type of legacy we all should you know and and what better way than be known someone known to help kids in the area not that I look for Pat’s on the back or nothing but if I know when I go to bed at night that hey I’m trying to make a difference in someone’s life especially in the world we live in right now um that’s all I could ask for absolutely and kudos to you for thinking that way and wanting to do that and I mean just meeting Christopher in person you saw how excited he was about having his wish come true and going to the Today Show and of course meeting Al Roker his favorite I think person got Natalie Morales Natalie Morales go all the kists who stole all the kisses number I said save me one yeah you think you won no he took them all and he stole my heart too yeah I know and you’re taking you here at local 13 for giving me and giving him an extra special treat absolutely we love him I love him he slowly heart and I’m his number three girlfriends number 34 I got four or five now oh well that’s Christopher for he’s a handsome guy all right spectacular benefit for make-a-wish happening october 22nd that’s this weekend the Elks Lodge on Broad Street and Hazel turn a 32 1130 Joe lap Jack Nick’s dad is going to be providing some entertainment it’s a five dollar donation at the door cash prizes for best costume 5050 drawing basket of cheer raffle and it’s all for the make-a-wish Foundation correct all right Nick anything else won’t add I just want to say you know people out there if I know in these hard times but even if you just get together over the next two days and have a dress down day at work if you have everyone can get together and say hey boss let’s all throw in two bucks you know anything any cash amount would be greatly needed towards some of these six children in our area all right very good Nick thanks so much kudos you good luck with the event and will be there to cover it and see how it works out hey thank you Chris and thanks for all your help absolutely anytime you need it all right to another organization that makes wishes come true a family is excited that a loved one will be able to join them for get togethers this holiday season to reset Hannah sick wrote to elder wish a local foundation that grants the wishes of various seniors and asked for a portable ramp the ramp is for a family member who is in a nursing home nieces and nephews tried bringing their loved one home for visits but it was always too hard because the house had some very steep stairs the ramp will now make things easier now the family can celebrate the holidays together starting with this Thanksgiving well we could visit her at the nursing home but there’s nothing like coming home and celebrating holidays with family with people you love sitting around the table having a good dinner having cup of coffee laughing joking I know she’s gonna enjoy this so much we all thank you elder wish and everybody here but we just did for us it really really helped us out a lot elder wish foundation is foundation that was founded you know five or six years ago and what we do is it’s similar to make a wish foundation but it’s it’s sick distinctly unique to the hazleton area in that we we grant wishes to the elderly people you know exactly like this that you know may need a need that

other agencies can’t fulfill but you know we try to do that it doesn’t matter how big or small the wish elder wish attempts to grant as many as it can if you or someone you know is a senior that would like to make a wish please contact elder wish at seven 8861 77 or p.o.box 1298 in cunningham that zip code is 18 to 19 make sure you stay with us because we have much more tonight here on your community news station it will soon be smooth sailing through the streets of McAdoo find out more about the burrows plan to pave the roads does this mean taxes are going up and he was back on his old stomping grounds congressman Lou Barletta held a town-hall meeting at City Hall where constituents voiced their concerns make sure you check out our website ssp TV calm and make us your friend on facebook and while you’re online don’t forget to visit the standard-speaker and the citizens voice stick around your live at five-thirty is on deck next make your dollars go further there’s one place that delivers unlike any other your toyota dealer so don’t just train in trade up to toyota during the toyota trade up sales event now Lisa 50mpg rated Prius for as little as 2 19 take a route 44 as little as one ninety-nine a month or buy a raft or with 0 % APR financing plus now every new Toyota comes with Toyota care don’t just trade in train up to Toyota say with great deals today and the better value tomorrow savings of the green sale event is now in progress experience tomorrow’s technology today with Earthwise vinyl windows and doors installed by just windows and much much more saving energy daily translates into saving money and saving mother earth for tomorrow’s generations of homeowners priceless so take the lead through more eco-friendly home with an environmentally friendly windows and doors from just windows and much much more Ashley you forgot about free estimates come on man call today for a free estimate tell them Ashley sent you if you want the area’s best selection of beer in cases and cakes well you’ve got it at jojos beverages on the airport Beltway all the best brews no extra charge for cold ones and over 300 varieties by the cases we also carry Tom Hagen bottled water and great spring water the propane pumping station is now open and running so it comes to where you go for your brew go to jojo’s beverages owned and operated by joe nemecheck idem check family company on the airport beltway at Hazelton open 7 days a week do you have elected surgery scheduled in the near future is your caregiver or companion going to be away for a while would you like to spend a portion of the tough weather season in a more comfortable environment ask about our respite stay to cover a caregivers absence no worries and a change of scenery will do you good our transitions program provides needed therapy and nursing support during your recovery from surgery and a comfortable and convenient atmosphere call us and find out more Skin Spa aesthetics is your home for medical aesthetic services including Botox microdermabrasions laser hair removal and their newest service NeoGraft hair transplanting founder dr leokadia project has been practicing internal medicine in the hazleton area for over 25 years and now brings her aesthetic expertise to two great locations to serve you free consultations are offered on all services so find the new you at skin spa aesthetics some current board members continue to raise your property taxes while test scores like behind it is our responsibility as board members to spend education dollars efficiently and effectively as well as providing the best education we can to light a fire curiosity and eagerness to learn in our children that will carry them through their entire lives I’m ronco for mica having taught in Hazel area school district for nearly 40 years I know what it’s like on both sides of the desk on november eighth please vote brokol for mica he’s an area school director smooth sailing in McAdoo well that’s the hope of borough leaders and residents after years of rocky rides through the squeakquel county town could the constant car repairs soon be a thing of the past in the scuba County community it’s where we begin tonight live at five-thirty from the Samsung production studios in the heart of Hazleton Pennsylvania if your news 13 hey everyone thanks so much for staying with us tonight I’m Kristen baczynski it’s a bumpy ride as you drive through the borough of McAdoo residents have long complained about the damage done to their cars because of the deplorable driving conditions officials have wanted to do something to smooth the streets and now the project is moving along because of how large this project is and the cost of it council invited borough residents to a special meeting monday night to talk in detail about the cost

of the repaving project and how the borough will pay for it council president joe meadow chick said the borough is already pre-approved pre-approved for a 1.8 million dollar loan and hopes to vote to get it in december some time but then councils left with deciding how they’re going to pay the money back if council were to raise taxes only the property owners would be affected but if they do something like a once-a-year garbage fee then tenants would also have to pay for those ten years and that seems to be favorable to citizens and council everyone who lives in macado’s should have to pay because everyone not just property owners will be using the roads is what they say we talked with the project manager who is working with the borough to map out the paving process we’re going to do a study to decide which roads they could look at doing from that study they’re going to look at the value of their loan associated with what they’re going to submit for Pennsylvania infrastructure bank loan once that is completed they’re also looking to possibly look at some other grant sources to do some roads in macular they’re looking at mcadoo overall six roads that council members feel are the worst roads are the ones that could be repaved but those streets might change if and when the engineering firm takes core samples of each of the streets to see how bad each one is the project would also include contacting the utility companies to review their pipes and lines to see if upgrading could be done to go along with the streets project which would help with the cost and improve services to borough residents councils also looking to apply for a grant for handicap ramps at each corner in intersection because federal law requires them if any paving project goes on grant could be for fifty thousand dollars and the engineer will have to apply for that before early November November each intersection would include for ramps with a total cost of twenty thousand dollars each smooth streets was the reason to call the community together in McAdoo but in the city of hazleton Monday night it was a visit by Congressman Lou Barletta that brought folks from near and far to City Hall coming back to his hometown of hazleton was number five in a tour of towns he serves the freshman congressman faced both supporters and critics some who were very vocal on where they stand including the congressman himself take a little listen residents like Jenny Schieffer lashed out at the congressman but Barletta didn’t back down to his naysayers for about 90 minutes emotions ran high the former Hazleton mayor spoke to the crowd about his own efforts to get Americans back to work and ease the unemployment rate the national debt crisis was a major issue discussed some in the crowd cried out regarding barletta support of free trade deals with other countries like South Korea and the subject of social security caught the attention of some audience members as well barletta told his constituents that he has a major concern for national security there’s two things that concern me about our Nationals one is the fact that we rely on foreign countries for our oil at the national security issue today we’re the greatest country on earth we remind for country for our oil the second issue that concerns me we are producing less than less of our own food here farmers are just they can’t make it their ends be any or another paying farmers be able to grow food for fuel when you think about why we just get a room feel and let farmers grow food barletta tells news 13 that he will soak up everything that was said or talked about during this up close and personal meeting with his constituents and returned back to Washington DC and continue to fight for what’s fair the congressman also told the crowd that he will continue to work hard at getting the disaster loan Fairness Act of 2011 passed which was created by barletta in response to our areas record flooding the Act would lower the interest rate of disaster relief loans as high as six percent to just one percent over 30 years it’s been three days since a whitehaven teenager was killed after the car he was riding in crashed and caught on fire family and friends of paulding oya came together monday night to remember the teen at a candlelight vigil News 13th Nikki cries talks to some of those who knew him best at the sad ceremony it breaks my heart to know that he’s gone because he was a great person it was a night of remembrance there were tears smiles and even some laughs his family and friends of paulding oya came together monday night he did everything for everybody he

sport of soccer but tell you the Cougars you’d never know that this was a team that struggled to get a couple of wins this year they battled them tough Coughlin would score the first goal and jump out to a one nothing lead but the Cougars would be undaunted they would battle back in a set must have been the senior night thing they were fired up for these five guys that were playing their final game on the home turf and they would come back and tie the game up tied 1-1 and that’s the way it went at the end of regulation so they had to go OT and Coughlin well they proved to be the better team which they are no question about it but Boyd the Cougars make them sweat the final in this one to nothing in favor of the Coughlin Crusaders so the Cougars lose that finale but I’ll tell you what they deserved a lot of credit because they played very very well and came up with a very tough luck loss now let’s go to the scoreboard and tell you some of the other things that went on yesterday and will talk with volleyball nanticoke straight sets three nothing win over the ma mi preppers meanwhile hazleton area in a non-league encounter they got swept in three straight sets norris cuoco Beetham three zip now what’s going on today well another out of conference matchup than interesting one it’s the bala Bell verse falabella thing dr.
